Regeneration is Regenerating!

Hey everyone! Today’s post is a little more personal than most, so you’ve been warned!

What’s Going On?

After a year of blogging I realized Regeneration wasn’t quite where I’d envisioned it. What started as an avatar creation blog morphed into more of a fashion blog with some helpful posts mixed in. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with fashion blogs (there are many awesome ones!) but that just wasn’t my goal for Regeneration. You all seem to agree! My top posts are all informative posts, things like how to use appliers, organizing your inventory, and if Gacha games are worth it. So I decided that 2018 would be the year Regeneration got back to its roots of helping you find the info you need to make your avatar exactly what you want.

Well 2018 came and along with it lots of off grid challenges, those of which I’ll spare you the details of. Lately I’ve been so busy, in fact, that you’ve probably noticed I haven’t been able to post as frequently as I used to. Again I had to figure out what direction Regeneration would be going. And where is it going?

What To Expect!

Regeneration is not going anywhere. What? Yeah you read that right. For now I, along with Regeneration, am taking a break. I need to focus on my off grid commitments and get my RL sorted before I can make time to focus on blogging. This is a good thing though! When I do continue you can expect the quality, informative posts you’ve come to love. I plan to branch beyond basics too, including avatars such as mermaids and children.

You may still see a post from me here or there about Free Dove (which I truly believe is one of the best first stops for new avatars) or other names you’ve gotten to know through the past year. Fear not, those names aren’t going to be forgotten or abandoned! They’ll still pop up, I promise. I’ll let you know when regularly scheduled blogging comes back.

Thank you all for your patience, your time, and your love. I really appreciate you.

Love,
Asia

Vista Lia’s Animations

Vista Animations released their bento head Lia last week. This post covers her animations and how she can make your avatar come to life. For more information about her appearance, cosmetic options, and to see her HUD check out my Lia announcement post.

Moods & Expressions

The Moods section is the first chunk right at the top of the animations tab. The four options allow you to choose the default mood your face will display. Each mood is a long and subtle set of animations. You can have one mood selected at a time. The mood serves as a nice baseline for your own unique personality to shine through. You’ll spice it up with your expressions.

Expressions are the flavor, so to speak. Each one selected adds a more obvious facial movement into the loop. You can select them all, none, or anything in between. With twenty four expressions to choose from you can build your very own personality how you see fit. The large pause button in this section will halt the expressions until you click it again. The stop button will clear all the selected expressions. I highly recommend you grab the demo and play with the moods and expressions because it’s really fun to make your own combinations!

It’s not just the movement that’s exciting, though. Using the smaller pause icons will freeze the face in an expression perfect for photos. You can see every one of the static facial expressions in the slideshow below.

Lia: The Vista Bento Head Is Here!

Vista Animations has released their bento head Lia! Vista Facebook fans have been excited for this for the past week, though many people on grid are just now hearing about Lia. Can’t make it to the store to pick up your demo? Not a problem! Learn everything you need to know right here then snag that demo (and maybe the full version) once the crowds die down.

First Impressions

Right upon opening the box I was excited to see how many shapes Lia comes with. You don’t have to be an experienced shape maker to have a nice variety of looks. I also loved that Vista included a notecard explaining that this is their first head and feedback is welcome.

Originally I planned on making one post about Lia, however she’s so in depth that I had to split it into two. Today I’ll cover the main appearance of Lia and my next post will dig more into her animations and poses.

What Lia Comes With

While many of these are pretty self explanatory sometimes a cheat sheet can be helpful. Here is everything that comes with your Lia purchase and what it does. Note: the head itself can be copied, but not modified or transferred. All modification options happen with the included HUD. The shapes allow for copying and modifying so you can alter them with appearance sliders.

Inspired By: Hel

To celebrate my favorite holiday, Halloween, I decided to create an avatar loosely based on the Norse goddess Hel. Those of you familiar with Hel know she’s described as being “part black and part white.” The video game Smite takes this literally by splitting Hel into two personalities and entities. I’ve based this look on that split image.

Split Hair

The hair is TRUTH‘s Ophelia. The hair itself is split colored, these images aren’t edited for that effect. You can choose any color in the HUD for either side. I highly recommend snagging the fatpack for this hair if you don’t usually. It gives you so many more options since you can wear two colors! The styling HUD also allows for the hair to sit differently as well. Ophelia is available at Salem until October 31.

Dual Skins

Two skins are featured here, both by 7 Deadly s{K}ins. The darker skin is Pepper in Mud and the lighter is Key in Dew. Both are designed for LAQ bento heads and come in Omega appliers. Pepper is currently available as part of the Trick or Treat hunt as well as for direct purchase at the 7DS store. Key was available as part of The Black Fair this month.

One Hair + Three Skins = Three Girls (ft. 7DS & TRUTH)

It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of 7 Deadly s{K}ins and TRUTH; they’re in almost all of my posts! Today I want to show off a few of their products and show how you can get different looks without changing much.

The Basics

Every pic used today has almost identical products (all of which are credited at the end of the post). There is only one actual product that is different in each picture and that’s the skin. You’ll see the style and color of the hair changes. The hair itself isn’t being swapped out, it’s all controlled by HUD. The color of the bathing suit is adjusted the same way. The mesh parts and shapes are all the same. This is a great example of how different you can look with a new skin and hairdo.

Serika

This look is based around the Serika Omega applier from 7 Deadly s{K}ins. While it’s designed for LAQ (there’s a shape for sale too) I find that she works fine on my Catwa head as seen here. She’s available in eleven skin tones as seen below:

  • Box 1
    • Caramel (shown here)
    • Cotton
    • Dew
    • Marshmellow
    • Sand
    • Snow
  • Box 2
        • Caramel (shown here)
        • Coconut
        • Oak
        • Pineapple
        • Taupe
        • Walnut Serika is available at anyBODY until September 30 at 8AM SLT.

Fantasy Avatar: The Gryphon

Today’s Fantasy Avatar almost feels like cheating! Kinzart Kreetures sells a variety of furry avatars that look lovely right out of the box. The gryphon in this post was released a few years ago, before bento, and is seen exactly how she looks the first time you put her on.

Prismatic Gryphon

The Gryphon comes in various colors ranging from realistic to playful. Shown here is the Prismatic version, one of the more vibrant selections. The Kinzart Vendor will allow you to preview all available colors so you can be confident before purchasing.

What’s In The Box?

You’ll find a full list of content in the image at the bottom of this section.

The left two columns show the items exactly as they are when you initially unpack the avatar (as well as what I’m wearing for this post in bold). It includes avatar components for males and females, an informational notecard, an update checker, and more.

The right column shows the unpacked “Extras” box. This box gives you various bodyparts so you can switch out beaks, tails, jaws, crests, legs, and ears. You can even make your gryphon into a hippogriff!

My favorite part of the Extras box is how diverse the items are. You can have lion ears, a horse tail, and a parrot’s beak. You can have a toucan jaw, hawk crest, and the lion feet. There are so many ways to make this avatar your own quickly and easily.

Note: The pieces can be copied and modified but cannot be transferred.

Pixicat’s Dragon – Asia’s Current Obsession

Since this is my last content post before I head on vacation later this week I wanted to share my favorite outfit (of the moment) with you!
Remember every picture is clickable for a full view!

Dragon Gacha

Yes, it happens that the most prominent items in this outfit are from a gacha. Pixicat created the Dragon set for this summer’s Epiphany. Epiphany is closed, however the gacha is still accessible in the gacha section of the Pixicat store. Thank goodness, because I still really want the last rare! I recommend visiting the Marketplace if there is a specific piece you’d like from this set as gacha games are entirely chance. I have a bunch of items from this gacha in my store (including 3 of the nr1 rare for Maitreya at the time of this post), but feel free to look for other sellers too! If you like everything in the set go ahead and give it a shot, it’s just L$75 a try.

Mesh Crash Course: Troubleshooting Issues

Note: While the images are from 2017 products, the content has been reviewed and is up to date as of July 2020.

Need more mesh help or info? Check out our full Mesh Crash Course.

Sometimes things just don’t go as expected when using mesh heads and bodies in Second Life. Here are some of the most common issues:

  1. Skin, makeup or tattoos don’t apply
  2. Skin, makeup or tattoos appear distorted
  3. Eyelashes are clumpy
  4. Skin, makeup, or tattoos are shiny
  5. Makeup or tattoos are faded
  6. Old body parts show through the new mesh body parts
  7. And many, many more…

While all of these things can be very frustrating, thankfully they are usually an easy fix!

Appliers

Some of the most common problems come from trying to use appliers. If you’re not familiar with them make sure to check out our in depth post on how appliers work.

If you’re finding that skin, makeup, or tattoos aren’t showing up at all it can be a few different things. First you’ll want to make sure you’re using the correct appliers. A Catwa applier, for example, won’t apply to a Lelutka head. If you’re using Omega appliers (the “universal” applier) make sure you also have your Omega System Relay Kits on. You may have to click the relays to activate them. For more information on ensuring you have the right applier and how to use appliers please check out Appliers: How Do They Work?

Linden Lab’s Newest Starter Avatars (Part 2)

Linden Lab released eight new starter avatars earlier this month, six of which come with bento parts. Anyone can use these, simply select the “Choose an avatar” option in your viewer. Note: If you already have an avatar you love save it to your wardrobe before changing! You can do this is the appearance tab of your viewer.

Yesterday I showed off the first four (Angels & Demons) and today you’ll get to see the next four (Renaissance & Mystic Heroes). The Renaissance avatars actually come with bento horses which is a fun change for starters. The heroes have adorable little imp pets, too!
